Pas de Deux
‘Pas de Deux’ is a percussion-mime performance I created at Studio MAPA Nederland with Ide van Heiningen (MAPA founder) and Yung-Tung Ku (MAPA studio member). The performance is composed of two movements/ two instruments/ two performing arts professions (percussion and mime)/ two gender symbols. The light reflection from the instruments creates a hint of baroque night-club tone.
Pas de Deux
‘Pas de Deux’ is a is a solo work for a percussionist. The performance consists of two scenes, two instruments, two performing arts disciplines (percussion and mime), and two gender symbols.
I created this work in the format of music and the expression of mime. In the first scene, the ocean drum is used as an instrument to tell the story of the sea mermaid charming the sailor; the second scene uses the timpani as the instrument to tell the process from the sound of heaven to the sound of mystery. The light reflection from the instruments shines throughout the room, creating a hint of baroque night-club tone.
"Pas de Deux (part 1)" is adapted into a site-specific theatre version in 2020. I adapted this fragment using the reverb of empty warehouse, the floral wallpaper, broken mirror sheets, to give this mermaid who caught by sailors a new kickoff.
