Ritual Bells Global Gongs
Ritual Bells Global Gongs
MAGICAL THEATRICAL CONCERT
Ritual Bells, Global Gongs is a magical theatrical concert performed on Western, chromatically tuned gamelan instruments, combined with bass clarinet and violin. The soloists and choir sing about an emotional reconstruction of the shared history of Indonesia and the Netherlands. The Indonesian-Dutch composer Sinta Wullur brings together Eastern and Western music cultures, using gamelan instruments developed by her, in a fascinating contemporary composition.
Twenty-one singers and musicians explore the shared past in Ritual Bells, Global Gongs. From various perspectives, they shed light on the relationship between the Netherlands and Indonesia. From the start of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) to the birth of Indonesia: How do we view this shared history today? What is an appropriate way to commemorate these events? This concert can be experienced as a ritual, honoring the shared history and celebrating a new future between Indonesia and the Netherlands.
