Hosokawa is one of my favourite Japanese contemporary music composers. ‘Sen’ in Japanese means ‘line’. As its title, this piece is composed of many aspects of “line” materials and motives. The line of strict time frame; the line of silent energy; the line of human arms; the line of the sounds of scratching/ rubbing/ voice; the line of interval distance.
